Work Profile
My aim is to raise the profile of typography – its history, development and application – through researching, writing, lecturing, teaching and consultancy as well as organising events for both professional typographers and enthusiasts of the subject.
I also encourage public awareness of the role of typography in society and I aim to develop an appreciation of the link between art and cultural typography.
I am the author of a number of books on design and popular culture including: The Kynoch Press: the anatomy of a printing house; Tart Cards: London’s illicit advertising art; Paris underground: and The St Bride Notebook. I also write each week for the trade and general press.
